Thankful. Happy.

I love Thanksgiving, a day filled with food, family, and festivities, and a day to express gratitude for all that we have. This year I feel exceptionally grateful for all of the wonderful things in my life because I have had a shift in my attitude and mindset. In the past I have tended to focused on all that I did not have or could not do. My heart and mind were soaked in negativity. I did not choose happiness. But now I find joy in each and every day, and for that I am thankful.

This change is largely a result of the fact that I am now living in a loving, supporting, and nurturing environment. I am surrounded by so many people who believe in me and genuinely want me to be successful, and this is uplifting and inspiring.

I am so thankful to be where I am today.

I am grateful to have my good health-physical, mental, and emotional.

I am thankful that I have the opportunity to chase my dreams and pursue my passion of competing in triathlons.

I greatly appreciate that so many people in my life are supporting me in this endeavor, from my friends and family, to my mentors,  advisers and coach.

I am so very thankful that my family welcomed me back home with open arms.

I am grateful that I can look around me and be filled with delight and appreciation, because this is what brings true happiness.

It is not happy people who are grateful, it is grateful people who are happy.

A favorite TED Talk of mine features Brother David Steindal-Rast, a Benedictine monk who preaches that the secret of happiness is being grateful. If you have not listened to his lesson, I encourage you to check it out.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all. Be grateful.
